We are the Universe
trying to understand itself
The miracle of consciousnes
Incredibly improbable,
yet absolutely inevitable.
given laws of nature,
enough space, and enough time.




Think of the forces needed
to shape the vast country iside...
your mind is the legacy
every interaction of every ancestor
all the way up your line
Shaped by every circumstance in history
to be exactly what they are
to fit their place in the grander scheme
and help each and every one of us survive.

Riding the wave of the eternal now
on and on down the river of time
through an endless secession of survivors
going all the way back
to the origin of life
trying an infinite diversity
in infinite combinations
endlessly branching,
diverging and combining
trying every possible solution,
keeping only what works.

And now, we have discovered
this process for outselves
testing our ideas against the Universe
conforming them unto its will
We go on collecting knowledge
as we strive for understanding
and survive into the future
letting it mold the generations
until we can reach our mother, the stars.

For we are all made of star stuff,
exploded out across the eons
and endlessly recycled -
right back to the beginning of time.

What magic could be required
for this to be any grander?
And there is no shame here
if we do not yet understand it,
That's OK.  It's what we're here for,
and we're doing the best we can.
